RE: Fuel $

THAT would be cool. But from what I've heard about "wind power" is that they cost TONS to construct and maintain with very little in return. Not a fact, just what I've heard. And it will continue to be expensive if the push for further development is eased because the price of crude is down. I just don't want it to be an out of sight out of mind kind of deal. Trust me I love these prices but there not here to stay. Depends on how weak the economy gets... Lots of over capacity at many manufacturers... and the possible military spending cuts to get the budget deficits under control. I wouldn't expect any real growth any time soon.

RE: China company may buy GM and Chrysler...

If the Chinese buy GM joint operations in China... how does that harm American operations and employment?

RE: Big 3

Did any of you watch the testimony of the big three ceo's? When asked what THEY would be willing to do to help THEIR own companies survive, only one, the Chrysler CEO said he would take a pay cut. He said he would be willing to work for 1 dollar annual salary. The ceo from ford, when asked how much he made in salary and bonuses last year, said 9 MILLION DOLLARS!!! Well I think he did, he said it very quietly, almost ashamed. But when asked if he would consider a cut, he said he was good right where he was. GM's Wagoner claimed he had already taken cuts and thats why he is alllllll the way down to 3.5 million salary and bonus. The CEO fat cats have gotten very fat over the last few years and that is what is killing this economy. If they want to move all the manufacturing jobs over seas to china, india, pakistan, so they can pad thier wallets with the quick profits, then they better hope they can sell there products that they make to the folks that make them becuase with USA being unemployed, we sure as he11 won't be buying anything. Nardelli was hired for $1 a year plus bonuses dependent on positive results. Home Depot paid over $200 million to get rid of him.

RE: Saw a news story yesterday

You really think that they will be able to afford the 'loan'? The US needs a 1/3 cut in auto production... even the foreign manufacturers are seeing double digit downside to monthly comparables. My prediction is during the next election cycle the US is $20 Trillion in debt.

RE: Redistribution of wealth.

Like is said fib. Proved again you are an idiot. You can't answer because its never worked stupid!!!! Huh? Trickle Down Economics is a political term... Its associated with supply-side economics as compared to demand-side economics.

RE: Was Bush prez..

China has a 5% GDP growth rate... and over $2 Trillion in US dollars... The $550 Billion dollar 'bailout' (infrastructure investment) wouldn't even dip into their till. They just won't buy US debt... and maybe even redeem some now that the rate is so low.

RE: Should the taxpayers?

Just too many vehicles being built... And the bailout of the Big Three will just hurt other auto manufacturing States. Its a no win situation that will mean extreme job cutting.

RE: Should the taxpayers?

Pension are protected by the PBGC. But no amount of money will 'save' the Big Three... There simply isn't the demand for new autos with the decline in commodity and equity prices. Money to the B3 will result in further pain to the other auto manufacturers and collapses in other States' economies. Not really an easy decision... as someone somewhere will get effected.

RE: Redistribution of wealth.

TD is supply-side driven. While TU is demand-side driven. Both will work, though historically TD tends towards higher economic output.

RE: Was Bush prez..

Actually the Chinese economic plan is to invest in their infrastructure... During the boom times they didn't have the labor force and resources to do this... now they can. The collapse of the world markets is a deleveraging that is occuring due to a macro generational shift in the US. Just like there is not enough workers to support the soon-to-retire Boomers... there are not enough workers to support the consumption and savings that drive the broader market.

RE: Taxes... do I hear $250k.... $200k?....

People are going to be earning less with the lay-offs on Wall Street, at the banks, and automakers... it tends to cascade into business around it. So unless you lower the number in reality it leaves nearly no one to tax above the threshold...

RE: He just keeps pushing his agenda.

Actually the tax increase will occur on a much lower Adjusted Gross Income... The campaign's have tried to 'reverse engineer' the gross income level needed to be affected by it based on the averages of a virtual voter.

RE: Get your Obama tax cut here....

Tax calculators are a bunch of******and always have been. The Executive Branch does not set tax and spending policy, nor does any of the campaign allow for the large variables of the tax code or the dramatic variations of income that exist within a volatile market. Try this possible future quotes on for size... 'I cut your taxes... your no longer employed.'

RE: Obama will regulate co2

Not completely CO2 levels have a physiological and psychological effect on humans around the 500 ppm level. But most of the reductions will be done purely by market forces... The gas/diesel taxes (?) would be more along the line of revenue enhancement to the federal government.

RE: Obama will regulate co2

Alternative sources of electric production. Increased regulatory requirements on fuel economy and emissions for off-highway engines. Increase the gas/diesel taxes?

RE: WOW. Anyone think this will go down?

So what? The governor from California was born in Austria. Blind repubs too. Not exactly the same as what they are taking about... Each office has its specific requirements.

RE: At last good economic news!!!!

The Housing Bubble began around 2002. Any inflation-adjusted chart will note its jump above the peak fluctuation around that time. But its capitalization was largely the Tech Bubble of the late 90s. The Housing Bubble 'popped' due to a run up in underlying energy prices that reached into other sectors. Its more a matter of which companies have the financial capital and earnings to survive the correction.

RE: gas and the taxes

Very few things have a federal excise tax... or are taxed on quantity rather than percentage of value.

RE: gas and the taxes

No, ethanol subsidies would be listed under US Ag Department budgetary expenditure. And the direct cost to consumer would be as an additive.
